Kmart buy named ‘best purchase’ for helping old cat

When pets reach their senior years it becomes a struggle for them to jump up on our beds like they used to.
One cat owner has found the perfect way to help her 11-year-old furry friend get up on her mattress in her old age.
Olivia Nelson shared a TikTok video of her pet using the $24 pet steps portable from Kmart and revealed it’s made her very happy.

“POV (point of view) your cat is getting too old to jump on your bed so these $24 steps from Kmart was the best purchase you’ve ever made,” the text over the video said.
The footage shows the cat tenderly making her way up the stairs, two steps at a time before tentatively reaching the mattress and making her way over to a comfy spot.
Nelson’s post had cat owners sharing their own stories about their cats attempts to reach their bed in old age.
“My girl is almost 16 years old. I think maybe I need to get one of these although she does still have a spring in her step. What beautiful old cat,” one wrote.
“My boy was 15, got rid of my bedframe so my mattress was on the floor, got steps for the couch & desk, & nightlights. I still have everything right where he left it the morn he passed. I miss him,” commented a cat lover.
“Those steps are great, I have some for my young kittens and they prefer them to jumping too,” one said.
Some owners mentioned their cats were too scared to use steps – leading many to sleep on a mattress on the floor for them – but Nelson’s cat was too until she trained her to walk up the stairs.
“I got these for my old girl but she was scared to use them so I ended up putting my mattress on the floor for the last couple years of her life, anything to have her on the bed with me,” one said.

“My cat got too confused at the steps and just cried she never figured them out. She just flops and falls,” another commented.
Nelson responded, “Bahah aww my kitty was scared of them at the start but I enticed her with treats and now she loves them.”
The steps have a 4.3 star rating on the Kmart website and are described as being for small, elderly or arthritic pets. It can hold a pet of up to 35kg.
